The Ada Hofman botanic aquatic garden

More than 30 gardens and 50 ponds

The splendid 5,5 acre aquatic garden was laid down in 1987 by Ada Hofman, autor of "the pond book "and "ponds”.

Approximately 30 gardens containing 50 ponds, includingprefabricated versions and pondsconstructed with liners, have been laid out around 3 large natural ponds. Together they in turn form one large garden.

A unique feature is the roof garden complete with a large carp pond. A 600 squaremetre garden has been laid out at a height of 3 meters on the roof Ada Hofman’s private house. From the roof garden, visitors have a splendid view out over the aquatic garden and her private pond.

Ada Hofman has set out to provide information on everything to do with ornamental ponds. A particular specialty of hers is keeping pond water clear by biologicalmeans, in other words without using chemicals or filters. The 50 or so ponds in her garden, varying in size from 420 to 500.000 liters demonstrate that her approach is the right one.

An informative film made by Ada Hofman is screened at regular intervals in the film theatre. This film provides comprehensive information on everything to do with ponds: keeping the pondwater clear, plants,animals, etc.

Also she has collected one of the largest collections of plants, shrubs and trees to be seen in Holland, totalling approximately 3000 different species. The names of the plants are listed in the catalogue.
